![]() June 1st comes with mixed emotions for me. As a gardener I love it. It usually means the last threatening frost is past and it is safe to do the last transplanting and lots of perennials are showing beauty- it is a time to get grounded. This year June 1 was the 5th anniversary of my Mother’s passing. Mom loved plants as well, so as I was planting and mulching there were lots of wonderful memories and a bit of sadness crept in as well. As I was having my dinner that evening I looked out the window and saw a deer standing on the edge of our lawn at the road. She was checking out the property and then slowly started to walk in the laneway, carefully looking all around. A car went down the road and she quickly darted to safety or camouflage in the evergreens on the other side of the lane but when all was quiet she wandered back to the lawn grazing now and then. She made her way under the crabapple tree – an anniversary gift from my Mom several years ago and this year its flowers were magnificent! I knew I had to be quiet and not go onto the porch or I would scare her away so watched from the kitchen window and door hoping she would get close for a good picture. A deer represents gentleness, unconditional love, kindness, grace and beauty. Seeing a deer up close is usually a good omen and means your spirit guides are watching over you---safety in God’s care! What a beautiful encounter on this day-----is this too your Mother? Be at peace-all is well! Tory Zehr.
